AMIGOS ANNUAL SUMMARY
AUTUMN 2025 AND BEYOND INTO 2026………
It does seem appropriate to update this introduction with the hot news that Team Europe 🇪🇺 have at long last secured their first Amigos Ryder Cup WIN! Congratulations Captain Gail Duffield, Vice, Josie Aves, and your Team for your success and in helping to create a wonderful and colourful atmosphere for 80 Golfers on Saurines Golf Course and 124 Guests for Dinner at Blue Collar. Captain America 🇺🇸, Diane Nicholls, and Vices, Steve Fitzpatrick and Iain Stewart, your matching enthusiasm has not gone unnoticed.
Your support for Amigos Golf remains very strong and is very much appreciated despite recent expansion of other competing Golf Societies with numbers remaining high and we are especially delighted with the uptake of hot Summer Golf Competitors! Our unique style still attracts many enquiries and we are delighted to introduce new Members to our Competitions which keeps the spirit fresh and rejuvenated.
With great fanfare, Dave Hughes deservedly took the Race to La Finca title winning Tier 1 and becoming overall Champion collecting spectacular awards and cash prize. Ragnar Hilmarsson was your Tier 2 Winner based on the number of games played. It is still open for this year’s ‘Race to Alicante’ and next year we take the ‘Race’ to the popular ‘La Finca’.
The Platinum Property Order of Merit awards are very important to us and are presented 3 times a year to those Amigos demonstrating exceptional individual golf prowess and consistency. Category 1 Winners so far this year have been Steve Fitzpatrick and Gordon Hutchinson (both previous Winners) and Wayne Goodwin and Andrew Smithurst picked up Category 2 accolades.
May’25 continued our successful, and now institutional, Amigos Anniversay Cup Away Day to La Envia, Almeria where Steve Nicholl’s name goes onto the Honours Board. You always insist on continuing these adventures and we now look forward to playing Oliva Nova, Oliva, Valencia which is a Seve Ballesteros course and enjoy the hospitality of the Golf Resort Hotel. Registrations are already flowing in quickly.
The balance of competition fixtures for the rest of 2025 is quite formidable and the register is fully open to take your bookings right through to Dec’26 where we have introduced some new courses into the mix. Apart from Oliva Nova, we will play Villataina, Benidorm and Las Pinaillas, Albacete as well as Desert Springs alongside your favourites, Las Colinas, La Finca, Lo Romero, Villamartin, Golf Altorreal, Alenda, Alicante, etc.,and the local U-Golf and GNK golf courses. Peraleja and Corvera will hopefully feature in 2027!
The variety of special tried and tested Competitions and Matches always inspire and as well as the above we will continue with the Amigos v Golden Bear Matchplay in Jun’26 and the Platinum Fours in Nov’26 and maybe a ‘Balesteros Trail’ playing 3 or 4 Seve courses at the back end of the year. And much more than in the past you seem to dominate golf courses with your scoring such that the Amigos Forties Club is running out of pages! Damien Reilly, 47 points, at Roda Golf and Mick Brooks, 46 points, at Las Colinas top the list.
Of considerable interest is our Amigos Shirt-World Tour. It never ceases to amaze us where in the World you wear your shirt and the status of venues where they are seen. Ryder Cup Venues, Major Championship Courses, DP World Championships, National Tours, PGA Tours, European Tour Golf Courses around the World including Augusta National and Bethpage! In recognition of the importance of this collection you will shortly see a change to our Amigos Shirt Logo! Always checkout our Facebook Page, Amigos Golf Society to see where Amigos Shirts have been and don’t forget to pack your shirt wherever you go with local and European courses being just as important.
It’s an honour and privilege to collect money through our Two’s Pot for Local Charities and your generosity knows no boundaries. Over €1.150,00 was collected this year. Wow!
We are also delighted to confirm Liz McReynolds, Platinum Properties, for her continuing sponsorship for the coming year which enhances what we can add to our regular features and ‘service’. Long may that relationship continue.
We strive to make our Society ‘cashless’ for the convenience of all and it is pleasing to see more and more of you remitting your dues by Bank Transfer, keep it up. On a domestic organisational level we are all challenged by changes to the Start Sheet after issuing. Whilst accidents and emergencies do occur we do ask that you let us know early of your intentions and do check out ‘Have I Booked’ on the website which is more regularly kept fully up to date.
When you see these Amigo Organisers, below, just pat them on the head and say ‘well done’ guys as without Graham, Harry, Dave, Bob, Iain and Brian and regular Teeboys, Ron Weller, Mick Lynch and Andrew Smithurst the quality of our service would just not be the same!
WHAT ANOTHER EXCEPTIONAL YEAR IT’S GOING TO BE……………..
