ARCHIVED RESULT FROM
It only happens every 2 years but what a fantastic event we had with the AMIGOS RYDER CUP.
How fantastic it was to see 80 players taking part this year with most players making the effort to dress-up in team colours. You all looked superb 👍
The golf was excellent at Saurines with the weather good, the course good, All games played in a great spirit but always 'tough competition'. To top it off, the scoring proved to be very close right up to the final game and it would be fair to say that no-one (bar the adjudicator) knew who the winning team actually was until the presentation was completed that evening.
The evening at 'Blue Collar', where we took 122 people, was also a great success with really good food, albeit slightly slow service, and great entertainment from our singer & a busy dancing area . Apologies again for the slight delay in getting the presentations started but it would have been very unfair to begin until Bob Lancaster's & Harry Rice's return given they were still working on setting up the Restaurant for us up to 1900hrs.
So how did the golf go?
We had one pairing (Alan Kilminster & Caroline Pickering) that managed a 4 - 0 victory and two pairings (Caroline Cherry & Tiina Hurst, Terry Howard & Sam McReynolds) that managed 3½ - ½ victories; so many congratulations to those 3 pairs.
In the final Analysis the scores were extremely close and a 3 team point swing would have made the match a draw, BUT with a 43 points to 37 Points win it was captain GAIL DUFFIELD AND TEAM EUROPE that took the cup.
These events require a huge amount of effort to prepare & stage so it was especially unfortunate & disappointing that Graham Field could not join us due to a serious viral illness which 'laid him low' on Wednesday - we wish him a speedy recovery. Enormous thanks go to Graham, Bob Lancaster, Harry Rice, Iain Stewart & Dave Hughes for all the work they have done to make this event work. Our thanks also to: Colin Aves, Ron Weller & Colin Walters for their help on the Tee box and to Colin Aves & Graham Platts for taking photos of the day.
No time for a breather though as we hope to see many of you at our next game at La Torre (2/10) and the at Aguilon (a rare visit to a superb course that is hard to secure Society games on and should not be missed) the following week. We still have a few vacancies for both.
Thanks for your continued support
Brian 👍
