Hola AMIGOS
A HOT day and some very HOT Golf was played, you Amigos never seem to stop surprising us with your total disregard even for top quality courses! It was really good to have a few new faces mix with our returning Golfers and regulars and a very full house to mark the return of the, well almost, Autumn Golfing season. But how did you play? Let’s see: -
Individual Category 1
As it should be Cat 1 Players returned the best average scores of the three divisions and can honourably mention Ken O’Keeffe, Anthony Gray, Kevin Scott and Jim Boggon, 34 Stableford points, Ron Weller, 35 and just missing out on the prizes Martin Trevillion (h/c 12.4) and Dave Robinson (h/c 12.7) 36 points. Congratulations everyone and especially the one two: -
Winner : Andy Duffield : 37 points
Runner-Up : Paul Taylor : 36 points (h/c 10.3)
Individual Category 2
Slightly less of an all round average than the Category 1 players but very good and the top two were well ahead. Steve Atkinson and Captain Europe, Gail Duffield are honourably mentioned with 34 points as is Gordon Hutchinson, 35 points. But straight into the Amigos Forties club drives the winner. Many congratulations to all especially the podium place makers: -
Winner : Carol Brand : 40 points
Runner-Up : Chris Connorton: 38 points
Individual Category 3
Very respectable golf was played from this group and Rinus de Zwart and John Fox, 34 points are honourably mentioned along with Liz McReynolds, 35, very well played. Exceptionally well played the Runner-Up and the winner’s score was simply out of this world! If you know the winner you will know how exceptional his score was and of course he goes straight into the upper echelons of the Amigos Forties Club. Many congratulations: -
Winner : Mick Brooks : 46 points (Yes, Forty Six Points!)
Runner-Up : Steve Nicholls : 38 points
Team Competition
Four Teams were in the money and whilst the format put added pressure on scoring for double points the scores were very good and you gelled together efficiently so well played. But all the plaudits go to these four Teams put into perspective when standard par is 140 points. The winning score was quite remarkable and Mick Brook did have some exceptional help from his Team too!
Winners : Team 5 : 164 points
Martin Trevillion, Anthony Gray, Steve Atkinson and Mick Brook
Runners-Up : Team 9 : 151 points
Ron Weller, Steve Fitzpatrick, Carol Brand and Adrian Langston
3rd Place : Team 13 : 140 points
Dave Robinson, Steve Cherry, Dennis Morrison and Rinus de Zwart
4th Place : Team 15 : 139 points
Kevin Scott, Jim Boggon, Jeff Cohen and Wayne Goodwin (Ghost)
Other team scores were: Teams 7 & 12 = 137pts, Team 10 = 134pts, Team 14 = 133pts, Team 8 = 130pts, Teams 6 & 4 = 126pts, Team 16 = 125pts, Teams 11 & 3 = 123pts, Team 2 = 119pts, Team 1 = 104pts.
Executing fine shots from the Tee-Boxes on the Par 3’s were these Amigos, Ron Weller, Hole 5 (but aces are your forte?), Martin Trevillion, Hole 7; Liz McReynolds, Hole 10; Gail Duffield, Hole 14 and Steve Fitzpatrick, Hole 17. Good shooting!
Let’s now just focus on the Ryder Cup and I have no doubt that our Lady Captains Gail Duffield and Diane Nicholls will have learnt much from their Team Players on show today. Let’s look forward to their pairings and indeed, the Competition itself.
Thank you to our Organisers, Helpers and Presenters today, Iain Stewart your ‘Start Sheet Maestro’ (and what a messy week for him!), Harry Rice, Bob Lancaster, Brian Platt, Andrew Smithurst, Ron Weller, Mick Lynch and of course Gail and Diane.
Phew, what a day!
Muchas Gracias
Graham🤓👍
