What a fantastic day we had at Lo Romero and our evening event at Armonia for the 4th running of the infamous 'Amigos vs Golden Bear Challenge'. This year we had 68 golfers in 17 flights sand the evening saw 96 people enjoy great food and entertainment. Golden Bear were on a roll with 3 straight wins coming into the event so Amigos werre keen to correct those stats, so how did everyone do?

This year's competition proved to be very tight and when the 3rd game came in as a DRAW it looked very much like we could be looking at 'number of Holes won' to determine the comp in the vent of a tie. As the scores came in it continued to be tight with one game going to the final hole to determine a winner. The Amigos team had managed a few big wins so it was looking promising for them in the event of a draw as the 'holes won' score stayed above that of the Bears.

When the final team came in, all the scores were tallied and indeed the Amigos team had pipped the Bears on 'Holes won', but none of that would matter unless they could at least match the Bears on 'matches won'.

 

This proved to be 'a bridge too far' for the Amigos as the Bears had taken that 'last hole win' and managed to achieve a 9 - 7 matches win (with 1 match halved) over the Amigos and retain the Challenge cup for a 4th consecutive year.

Congratulations to Gordon Hutchinson and team Golden Bear on another magnificent victory.

Definitely an event to repeat in 2027 (although exactly where is yet to be determined) when we will have 2 new captains: Harry Rice - leading Amigos and Ron Weller leading Golden Bear. If it is as good as this year you will not want to miss it.
